Your Midshipman has been trained and provided all the resources necessary to embark on sea year.
There will be days and events that are unsettling for you and your midshipman.
You will send off a young midshipman but will welcome back a responsible, highly trained, fully self-sufficient and functioning, world traveled adult and leader.
Your midshipman will be a junior officer cadet expected to work 7 days a week. They will be given unpleasant task to complete- this is how they learn. They will work 8-14 hour shifts, they will stand watch, and they will have 2-4 hours of sea project work to complete each day.
Your midshipman will learn to survive, function and thrive in an every changing environment. They will learn to live, work, and play with people from multitude of backgrounds and with various personalities.
There is a safety net in place. Your midshipman is provided a satellite phone for emergency contact with the ATR.
At all times the USMMA is monitoring all world issues and makes adjustments when necessary for the safety of all midshipman at sea.
Be flexible. Things will change. ports, ships, schedules, weather and world issues will change.
